Just got an email to my hotmail account purporting to be from Halifax Bank (sender: postmaster@halifax.co.uk) - I was immediately suspicious because I don't and never have banked with them, it has a Halifax logo which is actually provided by halifax-online.co.uk - which is a genuine Halifax Online Banking website, after that it has the following text:
Dear Sir/Madam,

Due to this recent upgrade, we provide to our online personal customers new features to keep your online account more safe and easy to access. You can login with the link below to view what is new in our services.
Please do not reply to this e-mail. Mail sent to this address cannot be answered. For assistance, log in to your Halifax Online Bank account and choose the "Help" link on any page.
Halifax Email ID # 1864
afaik the Halifax Online Banking url is .co.uk, not .net, so pretty sure this is a Phishing attempt.
If I had VMWare installed on here I'd have a look on the URL in a safe environment to check it out.
Had a look on the real Halifax website but you can't contact them by email (only phone), so I can't report it
