Google on Wednesday said its Gmail service is now open to anyone who wants an account. Previously the service, which provides users with 2.8GB of e-mail storage space, has been by invitation only.
Is it called gmail, or googlemail? I know a couple of people who have signed up in the last 6months or so and have gotten @googlemail.com accounts, which doesn't really have he same ring as a gmail.com account.
^^^^mixy - they changed the name in the UK to googlemail due to a legal battle which they conceded. If you sign up from a UK IP nowadays you get an @googlemail.com extension, but there's ways around that if you don't like it also i'm told that if you send mail to user@gmail.com it will still get to user@googlemail.com
^^^^^^^^edwardo - my hotmail account gets more spam than a spam factory on record production day, and i'd say 50% of it goes straight to the inbox
