Right the problem i am having is that i rip cds using winwows media player so end up with a wma, then when i try to convert it says that the files are protected. is there a way to get around this or just stop using media player.

erm think u can buy a license from micro$hite to rip to mp3, but best way i've found is to get winamp3 and download the cd-ripper plugin fot it (it rips to mp3 and ogg really well), it's the only reason ive kept winamp3 not that i have winamp2.91 coz i cant find a decent ripper plugin for 2.91

I have used CDex for CD->MP3/wav extraction for a long time now, find it's very reliable and the default CDDB accurate.

For conversion, I have used dBpowerAMP music converter software from time to time to convert MP3s (eg down to 112k for my MMC cards), but also works for converting between formats, dunno what the quality of that would be like...

Extract using musicmatch jukebox which rips directly to MP3. When you convert wma to mp3, you lose some quality. This is called 'lossy'..

Post 4 and all is well...
