Anti Virus Software:

Well my Norton AV has just expired. So now looking for a good AV which will keep my system protected like Norton with email scanning etc.

I tried to get a way with not having to pay and i got AVG, but it seems to crash when scanning incoming emails though (get emails through outlook express) :( Anyone know how good ewido security suit is? I like the interface on the free version :) and it gets rid of spyware to and i can get it for ?13 by doing their survey to knock 20% off :D. Or is it better sticking with Norton? Or just stick with free AV such as AVG?

I already have a firewall and have lots of spyware scanners :P, e.g. one on zone alarm, ad-aware, spybot, ewido free version :P. I use ff and get rid of cookies every time i close my browser.

vinnie, if you're considering paying ?13, have a search on these forums, there's a thread where Ed posted a link to a deal Microsoft were doing with various anti-virus & firewall suppliers for free or cheap software, and last time i checked (month or so ago) the deals were still valid

edit:

i've done the work for you, looks like the deals are still available too

the original thread

Norton is arse anyways mate. Word of advice - the Computer Associates one may be completely free, but it's :arse: with a capital :deize:

just looking at the deals mate, i would say that if u definitely don't want firewall etc then go for F-Secure Anti-Virus 2006 from that link, ignore what it says on the front, the deal is you get 50% off from F-Secure, so it works out ?12 for the year and F-Secure is pretty damn good security :)
or you could always pay the extra ?4 and get F-Secure Security Suite 2006 and do away with your other firewall software, the spyware protection included is F-SEcure branded AdAware, so you can also do away with your AdAware install :)

After years of use i finally decided Norton is indeed arse and with every new release the worse it gets. NOD32 is the best around if you can stump up enough dosh.

problem with NOD32 at the moment is.... the link to the UK section on their site redirects you to http://www.nod32uk.com which doesn't exist :o

edit: although if you click to buy NOD32 from the international page it takes you to secure.nod32uk.com and works fine, and the price is ?23

Of the M$-0customers deals I've tried F-Secure and Kaspersky, both are excellent. Still got F-Secure (licensed) to this day actually :)

I'm using Symantec Corporate edition... erm it's quite good and doesn't hog your resources like the Norton range...
